What are the highlights of your career accomplishments?
One of my accomplishments in Baja California has been bringing together a number of local and regional conservation NGOs and governmental agencies to work formally in collaboration to foster conservation of both San Quintín Bay and Isla Guadalupe. This Coalition for the Protection of San Quintín Bay has already applied for Ramsar designation of San Quintín, developed the second version of a study to declare it as a Natural Protected Area, applied to get concession of the Federal Maritime Zone around its main wetlands and conducted environmental education workshops and research around bird habitat conservation.
Why is the Global Mediterranean Action Network exciting to you?
Because it provides a venue for sharing of information and experiences, and it may foster collaboration among Mediterranean-type ecoregions in the different continents. We may find common solutions to common problems or take advantage of overarching opportunities.
How did your early experiences in nature influence you?
I have been in contact with the outdoors since my childhood. I am devoted to conservation because I am convinced that the knowledge of our natural world brings love and passion for it and I am eager to protect those special places for mine and the next generations to discover and enjoy.
What are your favorite species and/or landscapes?
I love arid habitats, especially the Sonoran Desert and its typical unique dwellers: cacti, snakes and lizards.
What gives you hope?
God is my main hope provider and he passes it on to me through other people and the beauty of our natural world.
What activities do you enjoy in your spare time?
In my spare time I spend time with my 9 year-old son, Brian, my family and friends. I love reading, soccer and playing pool.
